Expree Credit Union is excited to introduce an innovative and effortless way to support nonprofit organizations through fundraising – Expree's Experience the Change** program.

Nonprofit organizations play a crucial role in making a difference in people's lives, but funding the programs and services can be a challenge. Donations from individuals and corporations are the lifeblood of these organizations, but sometimes it can be difficult for people to find the means to donate a significant amount of money.

Expree Credit Union has designed this program to assist with the challenge. Experience the Change is a program that incorporates a donation savings account and our Cash $tash program. The non-profit organization opens a Be the Change Savings Account and donors sign up for Cash $tash through their Expree checking account.

What is Cash $tash?

If you're not familiar with Cash $tash, it is Expree’s round-up program. It is now an easy and effective way for individuals to turn everyday purchases into meaningful contributions. By rounding up debit card transactions to the nearest dollar, donors can effortlessly contribute their spare change to your nonprofit organization, helping turn small donations into significant impact over time. The round-up change goes into a selected Be the Change Savings Account set up by a non-profit organization.

For instance, if someone spends $4.50, the program would automatically round up to $5.00 and donate the extra 50 cents to your non-profit organization.

How It Works:

1. Nonprofits open a "Be the Change Savings Account": Begin by setting up a dedicated savings account with Expree Credit Union. This will be the account where all the spare change donations are deposited. You can open this account with $5-100. This account will earn 10% APY*
2. Nonprofits design a customized debit card: Design a debit card that can be chosen by your supporters and bring awareness to your organization and the program to help start conversations and gain more supporters.
3. Invite Supporters: Encourage existing donors and potential supporters to sign up for Expree's Cash $tash. The process is just as simple for them. Once someone opens a checking account and signs up for Cash $tash, all they have to do is choose a nonprofit as the designated savings account and begin using their card as usual. By doing so, they can start rounding up their debit card purchases to the nearest dollar, with the extra cents being donated directly to the nonprofits savings account. Expree can provide promotional materials to nonprofits to help spread the word and engage with supporters.
4. Automatic Donations: Once enrolled, donors can use their debit cards as usual. The program will automatically round up every purchase to the nearest dollar, ensuring continuous and seamless contributions.

With the average user contributing around $15–$20 a month, an organization can significantly increase its fundraising efforts with minimal effort. Imagine the impact as more supporters join this seamless giving journey! One of the biggest selling points to donors is the fact they’re only being asked to donate their spare change. For most people, it’s much easier to say “yes” to parting with nickels and dimes, than to a set amount of money. But for the nonprofit, those nickels and dimes add up. The average Cash $tash user donates $15-20 a month. If an organization just had 10 users donating, you could generate $150-$200 a month or $1,800 - $2400 a year, with zero effort.

Expree’s Cash $tash program currently has already generated more than $95,000 in 2025. It not only gives current donors an additional way to support your organization, but also provide fans with a great low-bar (but high-impact) way to move from an enthusiast to a donor.
